Besseggen Ridge – One of the Most Popular Hiking Routes in Norway
A mountain ridge, which is embedded between the lakes of Gjende and Bessvatnet, creates a wonderful scenery here. No wonder it is a popular site, attracting most hikers and backpackers in the country. Maybe they are also looking for trolls and other monsters, since the area is known as the Home of Giants.
The most popular way to get around is by taking a boat from Gjendesheim to Memurubu and then hitting the road on foot. It takes approximately 5 to 7 hours to complete the route. One can also do it other way around – hike and then return by boat. Either way this is definitely a good choice when considering hiking in beautiful Norway.
Why to go there?: Great views, relatively easy trail, ferry service, several facilities and snack shops around.
When to go there?: All year round. The peak season is of course summer, but in winter there are skiing facilities and tours offered for those who are not scared away from a snow challenge.
How to get there?: The best way to get to Jotunheimen is by plane from Oslo for example. Then use train or bus to get around.
