White Winter Holiday in Bern, Switzerland
Being one of the most populous cities in the country, Bern has a very rich cultural life. Moreover, its historic center is preserved by UNESCO, meanwhile the mountains surrounding Bern also add up to a stunning panorama. It becomes especially beautiful in Christmas: streets and roofs get covered in snow, buildings shimmer from the lights and delicacies tempt to visit the markets.
Christmas markets are open since late November and offer Swiss specialties, candles, souvenirs and of course mulled wine. A nice skating rink in Parliament Square is another popular attraction, as well as skiing in the parks or mountains. Later in February Bern Carnival takes over the streets: the Medieval tradition, which grew out of a peasant revolt. Today masked Bernese march the streets in colorful attire, playing music and entertaining the spectators. Don’t miss it once there!
