These Frozen Waves Look Like Piles Of Broken Glass, And I Can’t Stop Watching.
Nature photographers know the weather can be highly unpredictable and sometimes shutterbugs can witness some truly amazing acts of nature. Dawn M. LaPointe captured sheets of ice pushing into the frozen shoreline in Brighton Beach, Duluth. This caused the frozen lake to break away from the brute force of the ice tide. Ironically, despite the destructive force of the ice, there is something very calming about this video.
The Minnesota resident spent two hours filming in subzero temperatures. The frozen sheets varied in thickness from 0.25 to 3 inches. The jagged-looking glass toppling onto one another had help. "Four hours of 12-15 mph steady winds from the SW led up to the movement of the large sheets of ice. Once the ice separated from shore and could gain momentum with the wind, it slowly moved in the direction of Brighton Beach,” LaPointe wrote on Facebook about the event.
This winter has been relatively mild in Minnesota, making the width of the ice thinner in the Lake Superior shore. Watch this mesmerizing video; you definitely want turn up the volume to hear shards of glass ice crash.
